Bristol 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme, Sept. 11th

What will I get out of a Mindfulness course?

Our courses are designed to help you learn new ways of handling difficult events, physical sensations, feelings and moods.
Our courses are rooted in approaches developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn (author of Full Catastrophe Living) at the University of Massachusettes Medical Centre, the Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy course developed by Segal, Williams and Teasdale at the University of Bangorand the Breathworks Foundation's approach to pain management.

The core skill you will learn on the course is ‘Mindfulness’ Learning a series of techniques and life skills you will find a way to stay more securely in touch with your present-moment experience, without the added assumptions, interpretations and dramatic mental narratives that can generate stress, anxiety and blunted creativity. Mindfulness gives us the space we need, even in the heat of the moment, that allows us to untangle the knots and negative belief-systems that have tripped us up or skewed our effectiveness in the past.

Our courses offer:
  • guided instruction in a range of mindfulness meditation practices.
  • group dialogue and mindful communication exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life.
  • individually tailored instruction.
  • daily home assignments.
  • guided meditations on CDs and a work-book.

The courses consist of eight weekly two-hour sessions, accompanied by 30 - 40 minutes of home practice per day. Mindfulness is a skill that is developed with regular practice over time, home practice is an essential part of the course. At our sessions we devote much of our time to exploring our experience of Mindfulness practice during the week.
